A round table discussion was held with Line Ministries who are working in the fight of ending Gender Based Violence against women and girls. The event lasted for 2 days and the training targeted 10 participants with 8 female and 2 males from different ministries. The purpose of this discussion was to share experience with ministry working to address GBV issue to learn from each other, share best practice, evidence-based resources, case studies, methodologies, approaches and strategies relating to the work they do to reduce GBV specifically, violence against Women and Girls. The training also aimed in building the capacity and commitment of participants to undertake programs targeted at eliminating GBV, implement quality programs not only to prevent gender-based violence, but to address its far-reaching after-effects on women and girls as it is highly needed by many feminist organizations. This discussion was necessary as it became clear that women were at risk of violence in our society. The training was done:
- To ensure that survivors are treated with respect and their self-determination is supported
- To create a supportive environment in which the survivor’s rights are respected and in which she is treated with dignity and respect.
- To develop ideas and strategies to prevent women and girls from GBV.
- To Improve understanding of GBV, its causes and consequences, as well as the underpinning theoretical frameworks, and survivor-centered approaches
- To strengthened the relationship between G2G and the Ministry
Representative from different Ministry showed interest in working collectively on GBV issues. The event served as an exchange of knowledge for us as well as the participating Ministries, participants were able to Understand the consequences of GBV for the survivor, family & community, and the perpetrator. Recommendation that was made during the training are:
- G2G to ensures the availability of counselling services and psychosocial support to GBV survivors
- G2G to establish a coalition among organizations that advocate for the right of women and girls
