Training was conducted for school pupils that are members of the newly established school club of influence. The training lasted for two days and the training targeted 20 participants from six different schools. The purpose of the training was to raise awareness on the effect of SGBV, Human right and how to do psychosocial counselling among their peers by given them the leadership and power to make their own decisions and watch how those decisions effect their life and the lives of others. The training also will help to provide a safe space for school pupils and to give psychosocial counselling by participating in club activities and to strengthen their leadership skills and power to make their own decisions. The objective of the training was:
- To support children to enhance their skills in interpersonal communication
- To helps to build trust among their peer and help to identify serious child protection issues which needed attention
- To disclose sensitive information regarding abusive behaviors they themselves or their friends have experienced
- To create pathways for school pupils to safely report and receive support and service connections in response to cases of GBV
- To helps the participants to openly express themselves without feeling watched or supervised by their teachers
In as much as the students were so responsive and curious to learn more about GBV, it wasn’t a smooth process at all because there is still a lot to be done to change the mindsets of students and have them understand that GBV does exist and has serious implications on the victims. Some of the students shied off when their teachers were around, and this limited their participation and opinions on SRGBV that occur in their schools/communities.
